Partial Solar Eclipse

The media has been full of talk of the solar eclipse over the last few days. I had not really anticipated that we would have much of a view of it. It was sure to be cloudy and anyway we did not have any viewing filters. I had not thought in advance of capturing it on film. I was therefore caught a bit unaware when Brian produced a welding mask for us to use (although some say that this is not strong enough protection). All the family had a go including Gran! The view was remarkable despite some early cloud. It was then I had the idea of taking a picture through the rather grubby welding mask.

I then scrambled around to find my tripod but alas could not find the attachment for the camera! ( I found it afterwards). So I had to stick to some slightly shakey hand held views but they do show the progression.

The light was quite eerie at the height of the eclipse and a lot of the birds were roosting on the roof tops. I will be better prepared for the next one in how many years?

Horse in Silhouette

When I look out of my back kitchen window in the early evening one of the horses is usually waiting to come in. He is often silhouetted against the setting sun. I often think he would make a good picture. Yesterday I caught him.

He was soon calling for his owner to bring him in and give him his supper!

I am tempted to change this as my offering for the Winter Photography Scavenger Hunt!

Pairs Big and Small

Another Wednesday rolls around and it is time to join in with Helena's pairs again. Yes I know I have blogged daffodils several times before but don't they all look so lovely at the moment? We have a lot of tête-à-tête out mixed with the larger trumpet daffodils. So here we are. Big and small.

The Farmhouse Kitchen

A Lady who keeps her horse on the farm knocked on my door on Sunday morning and gave me a card. 

I guess she saw it and thought of me! Believe me my kitchen is not quite like this!

What kind of bird is that?

I enjoy being able to watch the birds feed from my kitchen window. Today I had a different kind of species. I looked out to see Socks exploring the bird table.

Quite a comfortable perch for watching what is going on but rather close to the birds for my liking!

I think he could smell the beef dripping that I had put out for the birds!

Double Celebration

The girls went shopping yesterday. They are not good at keeping secrets so there was quite a commotion of telling me "not to look" on their return. This morning was presented with my Mothering Sunday gifts.

                       

We had a double celebration Sunday lunch with Mothering Sunday and my mums birthday. I was spoilt by the girls preparing all the vegetables and making the starter. I am well blessed with both of my girls.

The Last One: Winter Photographic Hunt.

This is the last on the list for the Scavenger hunt. It is no. 14 A Partly Built Building. I have found it surprisingly difficult to get this one. I have seen plenty of opportunities fron the car. This is a house that is being rebuilt near us. I did feel a bit nosey taking a photo so have gone  for the over the hedge view. At the moment their converted garage behind is bigger than the house.

I also can't resist adding another stained glass window (no.13). This window depicts the school emblem and is in a window above the refectory door.
