This Way and That Way : Pairs No. 2

It has snowed over night although it is thawing quite quickly. I am joining in Week 2 of Helena's Pairs with a view in either direction. The Chew Valley is situated between the Mendip Hills and Dundry Hill on the south side of Bristol. We have a glimpse of both. It is quite hazy first thing today but if I wait till it clears the snow will be on gone. So my Pairs is "this way and that way" from our house first thing this morning with the rapidly melting snow!

Towards Dundry.

Plenty of Colour

I have a remarkable amount of flowers in the conservatory for the time of year. The geraniums that were by our door are in full flower better than they have been all summer.

I have an azalea that I have had for several years which always blooms well.

Then there are some hyacinths that I planted as bulbs.

One of which looks like it has had too much mulled wine.

Then too add to the colour and perfume I have some blue ones that we were given for Christmas.

Roll on the Spring. I have seen some daffodils in bloom on Backwell hill so won't be long.

The Work Must Go On

Work with the sheep has to be carried out when it is needed and cannot wait for those on holiday. So dad had to get out the trimmers and tidy up the lambs who are nearly ready to go to market.

Back breaking work. Just as well he is off to see the chiropractor tonight!

Well the lambs all have clean bottoms now. I am sure you don't want to see so I will show you the pretty end instead!

If you wonder why they are so red it is the redding in our soil. Read "Return of the Native" by Thomas Hardy and you will read about Diggorry Venn the Reddleman who was actually red all over from handling the red dye redding used to mark sheep.

Breakfast No. 4 Winter Photography Scavenger Hunt

When I saw Breakfast on the hunt list details of which are available if you click here. I rather imagined a picture of a lovely full English. The kind of thing you have on holiday with a good bit of black pudding. Well we have no plans to go anywhere at the moment and no I don't cook the "Farmer Husband Boss" a full breakfast every day. He has cornflakes like everyone else. So it seems like my newly made marmalade will have to suffice.

I had skimmed the top of the marmalade into a pot and out it came at breakfast.

What a good opportunity to show off my new jam/ sugar bowl and matching mugs that I had for my birthday! Especially bought to go with our rooster jug!

Oh and the marmalade tastes good too!
P.S I like the other mugs from you too Lauren!

Digging in the Freezer

At the very bottom of the freezer I have had a bag of Seville oranges for some time. We ran out of marmalade a while ago so today out they came.

By the end of the day they were transformed into marmalade.

If you would like a jar you know what to do.....drop by!

The sheep dog. One Photo and Twenty Words

I am joining in with Abi's meme today. To fully appreciate this you may need to refer back to previous posts on my blog here and here.

Outdoor dog? With Kate away for over a week now she's under the table. In by the fire next perhaps?

A Fish No. 8 Winter Photography Scavenger Hunt.

I hope that my visit to the dentist today is the final one for now. Five visits on one tooth is plenty as far as I am concerned. I sat in the waiting room wondering which is going to hurt most. Another session under the drill or the bill waiting for me at the completion of this treatment?
I have spent a lot of time looking at this

A wooden fish on the waiting room wall. I have pondered why it should be there. Does it replace the fish tank of real fish that used to be in the waiting room? Certainly easier than real ones to look after.
Perhaps a present from a grateful patient? Or perhaps an unwanted gift rejected from the dentist's home.
Well it is ideal for the photo hunt details of which can be seen here. The chance of me photographing a real one are low so this will have to do. Although there is always my mum's Christmas decoration.

Well it didn't hurt to much in the dentist's chair today but the bill did....£385 ! Ouch!
