The Bake Off Results

Firstly I must apologise for taking so long to come back with the results of the Savoury Tart Bake Off. It seems to have been quite a busy week although not for any real reason! We are still taking things very cautiously with very few changes to our daily life. I did bravely go for a socially distanced walk with a friend last week. I don't think we will be rushing to have our quota of 6 in our garden. I was thrown into a dilema when it was suggested that we had book club in someone's garden. I was relieved that I was not the only one who considered too early to take such a step. We will be continuing on Zoom until next time.
However back to the results. Here are they and w are and who made which tart.
No. 1 The Full English Breakfast was made by my sister and was placed joint 4th my our judges and was also placed 4th by my blog commenters.
No. 2 Quiche Lorraine was made by Farmer Daughter. She was placed 2nd by the judges but 5th by all of you!
No. 3 The Caramelised Red Onion Tart was made by me. It was placed joint 4th by the judges and 2nd by you.
No. 4 Callie's Quiche was made by my sister in law and was placed 1st by the judges and 3rd by you.
No. 5 The Salmon and Asparagus Tart was made by Younger Daughter. She was placed 3rd by the judges and 1st by all of you! Personally I agree with you, this is the one that I would definitely like to have tasted! It is of course all only a bit of fun.
The next challenge has been individual cakes so I shall be showing you those soon.
Meanwhile the shearers are due tomorrow. The sheep will be pleased to lose their wooly coats in this hot weather. I thought therefore that I would show you a photo I took the other day when the sheep were in the field in front of the house/. The ha ha gives the illusion as it is supposed to do that the sheep are on the front lawn!

  1. We have decided not to go out much, we did visit daughter and grandsons in their garden, but have decided not to go shopping or visit beauty spots, not ready to mix with people more than we need too.

  2. They really do like they are in your front garden, what a great optical illusion! I bet they'll be pleased to get their wooly coats taken off.
Interesting to see the results of the bake off - they all looked delicious and have inspired me to have quiche and salad for dinner this evening! I wonder what bits and bobs I can find in the fridge to add to the filling?
I was so looking forward to the lifting of restrictions, but like you, now it has happened I'm a little wary! I'm quite content to just have my family over to spend time in the garden as I know they have been just as careful as we have. I think it will be baby steps back to 'proper' socialising for me.

    1. I think that is a wise move. I know I am lucky to have beauty all around me. I don’t need to go anywhere else. I still see a lot of people with the egg and feed customers. It Is interesting talking to some of them from a safe distance . Some are cautious like us, others can’t see what the fuss is about which is rather scary.

  3. I'm choosing to stay at home with the occasional solo car drive to somewhere people free. There is too much happening too quickly before the track and trace system is fully operational so it feels too risky. I want to wait and see what happens. On the last report I read the South West has the highest R number of the entire UK, currently at 0.9

    1. Yes I think it does. I think that is partly driven by what has been happening at Weston Hospital. There doesn’t seem to be much clarification about how much the number of positives there has leaked out into the community.

  4. Interesting! I realised I didn't rank all the tarts... so sorry if I made it hard for you to collate our results!

I too am resolved to carry on as I have been: staying in as much as possible, walking alone or with one other. Even that isn't necessarily simple as already I've found myself in difficult situations where my walking buddy keeps suggesting others whom I should invite to join us. My response seems to fall on deaf ears. Last weekend she announced (when I arrived) that she'd invited someone... but he couldn't make it. I was very relieved as his work takes him into many people's houses and I know he's been very relaxed about things. I just keep thinking that if I come into contact with him, I'm coming into contact with everyone he's been with. It can be really difficult to stand one's ground when you don't want to do things that are "allowed". Yet the rules are so arbitrary... 6 in England, 8 in Scotland ... and in any case how can a group of 6 who are distancing from each other keep away from all the other groups doing the same thing? The footage from the beaches and national parks is shocking. I think problems are brewing.

    Great photo!
