A Revisit

Last week I made a visit with my mum to The Walled Garden at Mells. It is two years since my last visit which was a brief wander about following a longer walk with my walking group. I saw enough to want to visit again. I had intended to make a trip before but it has been closed for a while. We were to discover that this is because it has very recently changed ownership.

It was a particularly hot day so we started with a leisurely lunch under the shade of the fruit trees. The garden is essentially a cafe. There are tables scattered throughout the gardens and once you have placed your order you can choose to sit anywhere and the staff will deliver your food. We chose the area adjacent to the cafe which is indeed an ideal spot for a photo for The Summer Photography Scavenger Hunt item No.5 A seasonal relaxing spot/item.

The menu choice was relatively limited. It was far too hot a day to try the leek pottage although it sounded tasty. I chose a very refreshing Greek Salad served with chunky bread and hummus. Mum had a well filled cheese sandwich. There were also pizzas available freshly cooked in a wood fired oven.

Our walk around the garden took us down to a terrace overlooking the adjoining fields.

Tables are set out along this terrace and it is indeed another ideal area to relax. The garden is basically walled on three sides and then on the south facing side there is just a low wall that drops away to the meadowlands.

When we had rested on the terrace we returned to the cafe for tea and a refreshing ice cream. Tomorrow I will show you a little of the gardens themselves.

  1. Such a lovely photo of your Mum sitting on the wall. Pretty patio retreat & I really like pizza made in a wood burning oven.
