What a wet weekend! I have been perfectly happy staying indoors and catching up on a few jobs. I was quite grateful not to have to walk Poppy on Saturday with Farmer Daughter taking her out first thing and one of her tenants doing the afternoon walk. This afternoon it actually stopped raining and Poppy and I managed a walk without any showers. The worst bit is dealing with the wet dog when we get back! Luckily she is as good as gold and will happily sit wrapped in her towels.
Anyway I digress. I thought with all this wet weather and continuing miserable news a few photos of my garden on more sunny days might just cheer us all up.
The early morning sun shining through one of the cosmos flowers. This year the sensation mix tall cosmos have been very slow to get going and have been all leaf and little flower. Finally when it is almost too late they are flowering!
The border outside our dining room window was looking rather ragged. The addition of some cosmos, rudbeckia annuals and the inherited dahlia have given some varied colour with the aster that was already there.
Rudbeckia and malope fill a bed we have recently cleared.
Then a few of our dahlias.
Finally to close the evening sun coming through the creeper on the railings.
We had a wet dog twice yesterday too! But as she is a Cavapoo, she takes a little longer to dry, plus for some reason, getting wet gets her over excited. She runs around like a mad thing until she wears herself out (someone needs to tell her that at nine years old, she's supposed to be calming down!)
ReplyDeleteWhat beautiful colours in your garden, autumn has well and truly arrived.
Your flowers, and especially your dahlias, are gorgeous. All my flowers are gone now that we've had a succession of cold nights. Some of my herbs are hanging on, and our hanging geranium is still gorgeous. We can indeed do with some cheering up. The news does not get better!
ReplyDeleteLovely autumn colour, and yes it rained heavily and constantly the whole weekend here. And has now started again!
ReplyDeleteSo interesting about your cosmos. I had exactly the same problem, and now in the last week they are suddenly covered in buds! Mild October please! The friend who gave them to me (seedlings from same packet) has not had this problem - however on GQT this week someone called in with the same experience as you and me. Various suggestions from the panel - one being to plant in poorer soil next year (though my friend's soil is rich in horse manure and hers were fine!!) and another said to pinch them out when they reach 30cms to encourage them to bush out rather than grow tall. I will definitely try that next year as mine are well over 1.5m, bit shapeless and prone to wind damage.
That is quite interesting about the cosmos. Mine are quite bushy but also tall. Interestingly some were seeds that I grew (Sutton’s) which were the most weedy plants possible although they were grown in exactly the same way as the dwarf cosmos which were really healthy. Others were self seeded seedlings who were equally slow to flower. Meanwhile my dwarf cosmos flowered early and well and are now virtually dead!
DeleteIt is dry here, for a change, but your stunning floral photos are always a cheer-me-up!
