Seasonal Vegetable

One vegetable that we have plenty of in the garden (apart from sprouts!) is red cabbage. They are an attractive vegetable to see growing.

They looked even better in the frost.

Braised red cabbage is a popular winter vegetable and has the advantage of lasting well in the fridge for several days. I love the colours and patterns when cutting the cabbage up.

So it was home cooked ham, baked potatoes and braised red cabbage for supper for us last night. Yum! Do you like red cabbage? A lot of people include it as a Christmas dish. We don't in our household but do you?

  1. We don't have it for Christmas dinner but we like it. I have a great recipe where you cook it with a little apple and onion. Yum!

  2. Lovely colours. Used a lot in slaw recipes here. (And of course the smaller ornamental ones in winter garden container arrangements)

  3. YOu are right about how pretty it looks! But I'm not so keen on how it looks when it's cooked. I made a Nigella recipe with it once here and never again. Now, ham and white cabbage, that's a different story.

  4. they look fabulous in the frost - they remind me of art deco stylised roses. I rarely cook red cabbage although I sometimes use it in coleslaw
