I am joining in Nancy Merrill's A photo a week challenge. The theme this week is two materials. I have chosen a building in Prague on the riverside that demonstrates a blend of both glass and concrete in one construction. It also demonstrates the juxtaposition between new and old where it fits snugly between much older baroque style and Art Nouveau buildings.
The Dancing House or Fred and Ginger resembles two dancers and was this built in the early 90s. It was built on the site of a building that was destroyed in 1945 by US aircraft bombs when Prague was mistaken for Dresden by the Americans. It is now a luxurious hotel.
What a clever building. I hadn't realised Prague had been hit. Such a beautiful city, a real blessing that it is mostly intact.
ReplyDeletewhat an exciting visual feast those three building with their different styles and history
ReplyDeleteExcellent example of the theme. I think I will be the odd person out - I don't care for the new & old styles smushed together. I really don't like glass & concrete.
ReplyDeleteHow cleverly done this is!
ReplyDeleteVery different styles and materials side by side. I am not sure that I like the design of the new building but it would be interesting to see inside.
ReplyDeleteThis is so cool looking. How amazing that they can not only imagine a building like this, but actually build it. Thanks for joining the challenge!
