I made a visit to my niece and great nephew today. We went for a rather rainy walk around Warwick which did give them a chance to try out the pram rain cover!
We took a look around the main church in Warwick, the Collegiate Church of St Mary.
The church had a lot of historical artefacts relevant to Warwick including a Norman crypt.
In the crypt there are the remains of a medieval ducking stool. All that is left are the wheels.
A full explanation of its uses are pretty sobering.
The 14th Beauchamp Chapel contains memorials to a lot of the Earls of Warwick and also to Robert Dudley 1st Earl of Leicester and favourite of Elizabeth the first. The effigy of Robert's brother Ambrose Dudley 13th Earl includes a bear at his feet. The bear has apparently been long associated with the emblem of Warwickshire.
There was a fascinating window in the Dean's Chapel.
There is an even more interesting window in the Warwickshire Regimental Chapel depicting both the church and Warwick Castle.
It was only from the other side of the church that I appreciated the rest of this window.
Lauren and I were both amused and slightly worried by the notice in this chapel! Just as well we gave them a small donation.
Baby Great Nephew was equally unamused by our stop for a coffee.
Shame it was wet but it looks as if you had a lovely day. Recently visited St Mary's but only briefly and can see there is lots to merit a return visit!
