We have had visitors over the weekend so a lot of time has been spent entertaining and catching up. Yesterday evening however we took them on a small outing. We thought the early evening would be a quiet time to visit a local tourist spot. How wrong we were! I learnt this weekend not to visit Cheddar Gorge in the evening. Our walk started out quite peacefully as we looked up at the great lion rock that hangs over the village, named for its shape.
When we turned further up the gorge the scenery became more dramatic.
However this was spoilt by the large number of "boy racers " in their cars. It is a frequent occurrence that youngsters in their cars with large noisy exhausts fitted meet here. Some of them were racing up and down the gorge
We counted 70 cars in total. They apparently meet in the gorge and skid and try out hand brake turns. We decided to retreat back to our car.
On our way home we stopped on the Mendips to admire the more tranquil view.
shame your trip to the gorge was cut short - beautiful sunsets. Have a good week
ReplyDeleteCan't remember the last time that I went to Cheddar Gorge, shame about the bikes. Sunsets are great
ReplyDeleteIt is such a shame that the gorge is used by boy races as I used to enjoy going to Cheddar in the evening and driving up the gorge. I hope your guests enjoyed their short visit.
ReplyDeleteI've never been but I am quite sure I would have been beating a hasty retreat too. What a pity. I do love those sunsets though. Wow!
