Whoops the fruit sank!
All the sheep were rounded up and the ewes separated from their lambs so another noisy day!
Shearing sheep is hot hard work which is why we don't do it ourselves. They usually arrive as a gang of about 3 or 4. Like many of the Shearers a couple were from Australia or New Zealand. They work here through our summer and then return home in December for their shearing season.
It is equally not very elegant for the sheep!
There is no consultation on the latest styles!
Meanwhile the lambs look on. They are too young to be sheared.
The fleeces are folded by the girl and packed ready to be sent to the Wool Marketing Board. We will receive a payment later.
The ewes look very skinny and bare afterwards but will feel a lot more comfortable and less prone to fly strike as the weather gets warmer.
I came by to see your one photo, 20 words, but this post drew me in. Thanks so much for sharing the shearing experience. Something I definitely don't see around here!
