5 in 5 : Pre Refrigerator Days

I have come very close to forgetting all about Sandie's 5 in 5 this month. The idea is that you take photos in a 5 minute timescale and then choose  5 of them. These photos were taken in a 5 minute period while looking round the Servants Quarters at Dyrham Park. They were also taken with the SPSH in mind.
1. I spotted these wings on the ceiling of The Tenants Hall which was a room where the tenants dined on rent day. This grand bird was part of the light fitting.

2. Next door is the dairy where the milk and cream was brought each day and poured into shallow milk pans on marble shelves to keep cool. The room is entirely covered in delft tiles which were apparently moved from a previous dairy in the 1840's. Each tile is slightly different. Note the trio of three pans.

3. There was a large fountain in the centre to help with the cooling process. We were suprised however that the room had so many windows.

4. I didn't miss the opportunity of another trio of three.

5. This last picture was taken with another prompt for the hunt in mind. A framed view. It shows the view out of the dairy door into the adjoining courtyard garden.

These show but a snippet of all there is to see at Dyrham Park.

  1. Beautiful photos Maggie and it's always good when you can make something work for two projects. Your beautiful windows also made me think of Equal Portions. It looks a beautiful house to visit. Thank you for sharing them and taking part in 5in5.

  2. Another lot of great SPSH finds. I like the pottery threesomes.

    1. Thanks. The light wasn’t brilliant in the house for photography. Had to fiddle with my ISO a little.

  3. I'm almost always taken by surprise when I see the first 5 in 5 post on the 5th. This month was no exception. Fortunately, Sandie gives us most of the month to come up with them. I meant to check the time on my NYC photos, but haven't done it yet! Certainly wouldn't have been intentional, however!
