It's Arrived

The News and Weather Forecast have talked about it all week. Some parts of the country have had it for several days. Today it arrived here. Yes you've got it, the snow.
It started this morning and has kept going most of the day which as predicted made everyone's homeward journey troublesome. Brother in Law and Farmer Daughter have been out in the tractor this evening to pull one car out and tow one to the main road. We already have requests to do horses tomorrow from owners who doubt they can get here. Fortunately the chicken feed lorry has delivered and the egg lorry has collected today so that is one thing not to have to worry about for a day or two.
This afternoon I went for a walk in the snow. It was snowing quite heavily so could only whip the camera out for the odd photo.

Judging by what it looks like outside there will be more than this by tomorrow.

Are you in need of a bath?

Frozen water and troughs are actually a farmer's nightmare. It can freeze in the sheds and milking parlours too. We have had to cover all the potatoes and have to be very careful to keep the shed doors closed.
Poppy has enjoyed the snow so far and doesn't feel the cold!

The icicles are a reminder of how the water expands when freezing and give a hint of the burst pipes that are likely when the thaw comes!

  1. Hasn't it been cold? I can't remember such low temperatures! Funny though that dogs really don't care about snow and ice, in fact ours wants to spend as much time as possible outside in it - wish I had her resilience!
