Stourhead : The Detail

I thought today I would show a little of the detail of Stourhead. This view has got to be another classic one. The slightly wonky slant could be related to the glass of Prosecco with our picnic!

This eagle on the gate post is one of many around the courtyard of the Spread Eagle Inn on the Stourhead Estate.

The walled garden is still full of beautiful flowers. When I was there a month ago we admired the array of dahlias and other blooms.

This visit I snatched a few close ups.

The pumpkins were ready for the end of the month.

This extraordinary tree was fortunately labelled.

Lastly a few close ups of the house.

A very classic house that is often spotted in period dramas.

  1. What a beautiful spot & yes I have seen that house & bridge/pond combo in several of the Masterpiece classics. The gate post head - eagle? Looks a little more like a hippogriff (Eileen your thoughts on this?)

  2. I like your prosecco fuelled shot. Were you picnicking in a cave?

    1. No! Bit damp in the grotto and a lot of people shuffling through. The picnic was by the cars!
