Leading on from my post yesterday there was quite a variety of different squashes on show in the produce part of the ploughing match. These three massive pumpkins were on show outside the marquee as entries for the heaviest pumpkin. There is a shoulder of a child sat by them on the left if you are considering how big they are. Perhaps also an entry for
No. 14 A Trilogy of Three for the SPSH.
There were a good variety on show inside. Some very interesting shapes.
The second prize went to this extraordinary squash which fortunately has the name of the variety written next to it.
There were also some fine looking marrows. So how do you cook your marrow? I have a good number ready to use and am always grateful for new ideas.
"Little trombone"!! 🤗
ReplyDeleteI thought the curly trombone squash was more like the neck of a swan ... art in the eye of the beholder... I think some of my favourites are the turban squashes.
ReplyDeleteWe stuff marrows with a mixture of breadcrumbs, sage and onion and garlic and then either mix that with sausagemeat, or bacon and cheese, or chopped up chorizo. Some of our marrows are so large they do three meals and we have each version in turn!
ReplyDeleteYour first photo brought back memories from my childhood when we lived in Ohio. Every year one of the neighboring towns held a Pumpkin Show. It was a big event with a parade and the crowning of the Pumpkin Queen. The largest pumpkin won a big prize. I just looked and the festival continues: http://www.pumpkinshow.com/
