Scarecrow Preparation

Those of you who have been following my blog for a while will know that there is a scarecrow trail across the Chew Valley each Autumn. The trail was originally aimed at fundraising for a boy in the village for his cancer treatment. Sadly Harvey died several years ago and now the fundraising is for a charity called A Siblings Wish set up in his memory. The charity provides individualised memory boxes for children who have lost a brother or sister where they can keep treasured memories and mementos about their deceased sibling.
This year the theme is Wonders of the World and I hope to be able to bring you some of the creations over the next few weeks. On Saturday however I saw one of the entries being put in place. The Young Farmers entry had been made by them at the farm and then had to be transported.

Farmer daughter and her friends manoeuvred them into position!

A few finishing touches were needed particularly helping them to stand straight!

Can you tell which are the actual scarecrows?!

Maybe not the most promising stock on the farm but I think it gives a bit of an idea of Young Farmers.

  1. It's a good cause & lots of fun & entertainment thrown in for the fund raising. Fingers #47 wins & gets the most donation dollars (pounds).

  2. Great fun - and well done to them for joining in. I look forward to seeing more of the scarecrows in due course.

  3. Great contribution to the scarecrow trail! Those memory boxes are so important. One of my students lost her mother while in my fourth grade classroom. A local group helped her make a memory box, and I know that it was helpful then and continued to be for many years forward.
