The Old Fish Pools

still have photos to show from our trip to St Fagan's open air museum, part of the Museum of Wales and free to visit. I was completely amazed to find such beautiful gardens around St Fagan's Castle. The terraces are part of the gardens below the Elizabethan House. The small lakes are known as the fish ponds and date from 1766.

They have been incorporated into a more formal style and as a feature in the gardens with small weirs connecting the ponds.

Walks along the terraces gradually take you up towards the house.

The  autumn colours are beginning to show.

The higher terraces look back over the ponds with statues decorating the top of the walls.

The upper ponds are less formal and are part of the more extensive gardens and paths.
