An Unexpected Flower

In the corner of the conservatory on the window sill is an orchid that I was given several years ago. It gets virtually no attention except the occasional drop of water. Recently it has made a desperate bid for more care and attention by sending up a stem of flowers. One flower is now out.

You can probably see that the plant is dusty, battered and generally unloved. Orchid growers will be horrified!
